Boat Trips from Bari: Fishing, Coastal Cruise or Sunset – Which One?

Updated October 18, 2026 · 5 min read

Bari is a working port, and most visitors never see it from the water. The boat trips that leave from the city are few and small, and they are not all the same kind of outing. One is about fishing, one is a plain look at the coast, one is a sailing trip and one is an aperitif at sunset.

A note on what this guide does not cover: the best-known boat trips in this part of Puglia, the cave cruises, leave from Polignano a Mare, not from Bari. They are covered at the end.

Which one

The coastal cruise is the easy pick. It is the cheapest, the shortest and by far the most reviewed of the four, with 261 reviews at 4.9. The listing is brief and only says you will see Bari’s coast and landscapes, so look at the booking page for the route and the departure point before you book. It suits anyone who wants an hour and a half on the water without a plan.

The fishing trip is the one that is different from everything else. The boat is a gozzo, the traditional small fishing boat of the Italian coast, and you choose between bottom fishing and fishing for octopus. The listing offers a sunrise option as well as a daytime one. At €80 it costs nearly twice the cruise, but you are doing something, not watching. It has 45 reviews at 4.9. The listing says the catch is yours; ask the skipper what happens with it, and whether the sunrise departure is available on the day you want.

The sailboat trip is the most expensive and the least proven. At €115 for three hours it has 42 reviews at 4.6, the lowest rating of the four. The listing promises that you can look for dolphins, try steering and swim. Dolphin sightings are never something an operator can guarantee, so treat them as a bonus rather than the reason to book.

The sunset trip has too few reviews to judge. Its five stars rest on eight reviews. It is the one listing that mentions families with children, and it offers a private boat, but ask the operator about what is provided for children before you book. The listing does not say.

Before you go

  • Seasickness. The Adriatic can be choppy. If you or your children are prone to it, ask a pharmacist or doctor before the trip rather than relying on advice from a website. The shorter trips are the easier ones to try.
  • Age limits and safety gear. None of the four listings states a minimum age, so check the booking page or write to the operator. Ask whether life jackets are provided in children’s sizes.
  • Weather. Boat trips depend on the sea. Read the cancellation terms on the booking page, so you know what happens if the trip does not run.
  • Departure point. Listings that start in Bari do not all leave from the same place, so note it before you travel.

One more listing is worth knowing about: an inflatable boat or boat trip with a tasting of local food for €38.25, 1.5 to 2.5 hours, with 8 reviews at 4.7. It is listed under Giovinazzo, a town further up the coast, so check where it starts before you plan around it.

The cave cruises start in Polignano

If you have seen photographs of white cliffs and sea caves, those trips leave from Polignano a Mare. The most booked, the speedboat cruise to the caves with an aperitif, is €34 for 110 minutes to 2 hours and has 4,861 reviews at 4.8. It is a different trip from the ones above, and Polignano is a town you have to reach first. Our Itria Valley guide covers Polignano as part of a day out from Bari.

All the options are listed under boat tours in Bari, and the longer excursions under day trips from Bari.
